This recipe is inspired by traditional Mexican crema which is often drizzled over tacos, nachos, burritos, and taquitos. It has a similar tangy flavor profile like that of sour cream, but is a thinner consistency, making it perfect for drizzling rather than dolloping.

Mexican crema is made from a base of cream and has a 30 percent fat content. For those of us looking for higher protein, lower fat foods, this cilantro lime crema recipe maintains some of the same flavors of Mexican crema while cutting down on the fat.

We swap out high fat cream with high protein Greek yogurt and add in a touch of lime juice for acidity and tanginess to cool down spicier flavors. A hint of salt and addition of cilantro are a perfect flavor combo for Mexican dishes including fish tacos, our sauteed summer squash tacos or even makes a perfect salad dressing.

Fresh and refreshing cilantro lime crema with higher protein and low fat. Serve drizzled on fish or veggie tacos or use as a light, zesty dressing for Mexican taco salad.
